AHTCC Encourages Inclusion of Housing Credit Provisions in Economic Stimulus Package

On Tuesday, January 22, the Affordable Housing Tax Credit Coalition provided the attached memo to Congressional Leadership, House Committee on Ways and Means Leadership, and the Senate Finance Committee encouraging Members to include Housing Credit provisions in the economic stimulus package.

Included in the memo are five provisions which the Coalition feels would spur investment in the Housing Credit program.

  • Permit the use of Housing Credits against AMT tax liability
  • Accelerate first year Housing Credits
  • Allow state discretion for awarding 30 percent basis boost to certain projects meeting state determined criteria
  • Allow 9 percent Housing Credits to be combined with below market federal loans
  • Repeal the recapture bond provision
