Alisa Kennedy is a partner in Dentons’ Real Estate Practice and a member of the Tax Advantaged Investing Practice. Alisa has extensive experience in transactional tax, finance and real estate matters, with specific knowledge of state and federal housing tax credits, historic tax credits, energy credits, tax-exempt bond financing and commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS), as well as financing related to government-sponsored enterprises and the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Alisa’s practice is focused on real estate and finance transactions with particular emphasis on community and mixed-use developments, affordable housing and public-private partnerships. Alisa represents some of the biggest institutional investors in the Low Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) market, and uniquely, only represents investor clients. She advises many of the world’s largest financial institutions and insurance companies on tax oriented investments, proprietary investment funds, multi-investor funds, structured (guaranteed) product investing, club funds, preservation funds, secondary market transactions, bridge and construction lending, and asset management. She is known for devising creative, practical and thoughtful solutions for clients in the affordable housing space. Alisa counsels clients on a broad range of real estate equity and finance matters, from acquisitions and debt originations to syndications, resyndications, asset management, restructurings, bankruptcy and year 15 exit strategies.
Alisa began her career as a tax associate with a focus on tax disputes and tax litigation, representing national transportation and railway clients in all facets of federal and state tax administrative proceedings (audits and appeals), criminal tax investigations and tax litigation before state and federal courts. Prior to joining Dentons, Alisa served as general counsel to the affordable housing division of a real estate finance company and national tax credit syndicator.
