NEW PATH COMMUNITY HOUSING

New Path Community Housing in Boise, ID, has won a 2020 Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Award in the Small Metropolitan Category (city population 50,000 to 300,000).

New Path Community Housing, developed by Pacific West Communities, Inc. and Northwest Integrity Housing Co., is Idaho’s first Housing First development. Providing 40 permanent supportive housing units also served by project-based vouchers, New Path aims to stimulate positive, permanent outcomes for chronically homeless individuals through affordable housing and wrap-around social and health services. This ambitious development was made possible through a collaboration of nearly two dozen organizations, including the Idaho Housing and Finance Association, Boise City/Ada County Housing Authority, City of Boise, Ada County, businesses, nonprofits, and healthcare providers. Nearly $6 million in equity was provided by American Express National Bank and syndicated by The Richman Group through the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (Housing Credit).

On-site services at New Path Community Housing are catered to the needs of each person. Residents have access to case managers, financial literacy services, a housing specialist, peer support groups, and healthcare services, including a part-time nurse and mental health and substance abuse counseling by Terry Reilly Health Services. New Path Community Housing also provides on-site private offices, recreation space, a computer center, community room, and exercise facility. Additionally, New Path is staffed 24 hours a day to ensure safety and stability for its residents.

Many residents walk or bike as a primary form of transportation, so the property’s location is important as well. Located on the edge of Boise’s vibrant downtown, bridging commercial and residential areas, New Path Community Housing is near public transportation, a grocery store, a health care facility, a nonprofit that works with low-income residents, the city’s 25-mile pedestrian Green Belt, and additional off-site services.
