Stephen Whyte is the founder and managing director of Vitus. He is a nationally recognized expert on affordable housing and a leader in the preservation and redevelopment of the nation’s existing affordable housing stock. Under his leadership, Vitus has developed over 150 properties and continues to own and operate more than 13,000 affordable family and senior housing units across 27 states. Mr. Whyte has dedicated the last 30 years specializing in complex affordable housing transactions and public policies that support healthy and vibrant communities. Mr. Whyte is a member and former chair of the Urban Land Institute’s Affordable/Workforce Housing Council and frequently speaks at housing conferences throughout the country. He serves on the boards of the Ireland Funds; Seattle Symphony; Seattle Opera; Up for Growth National Coalition; ULI Terwilliger Center for Housing (advisory); and the Runstad Department of Real Estate at the University of Washington (advisory). Mr. Whyte graduated from Pacific Lutheran University in 1979 with a degree in economics and history, and he continues to play the French horn with the Philharmonia Northwest chamber orchestra.
