Where can I find affordable housing?

The AHTCC is not a direct provider of affordable housing. If you are in need of affordable housing, we suggest using these resources.

Find a Housing Counselor

HUD-Approved Housing Counseling Agencies

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) sponsors housing counseling agencies throughout the country that can provide advice on a variety of housing issues, including renting a home, buying a home, and credit issues. The above link allows you to select from a list of agencies in your state or territory.

Contact Your Housing Finance Agency

State Housing Finance Agencies

Each state has a Housing Finance Agency which works to meet its state’s affordable housing needs. Use the link above to access your state agency’s website, which will provide contact information and details about resources and assistance that the agency is able to provide.

Access HUD’s Locator

HUD Affordable Housing Locator

The above HUD map shows affordable housing properties, including Housing Credit properties, which you can contact to inquire about vacancies and eligibility requirements. The map also provides location and contact information for Public Housing Authorities, which may be able to help you to understand your options for publicly assisted affordable housing in your area.

Access Emergency Rental Assistance

State Emergency Rental Assistance Portals

COVID-19-related Emergency Rental Assistance (ERA) is administered by state and local grantees. The button above directs to the National Council of State Housing Agencies ERA page, which includes a map that links to state ERA portals. If states have not yet released their portals, they will soon.

Search for Services

Aunt Bertha Social Care Network

The Aunt Bertha social care network allows you to search for free or reduced cost services like housing, medical care, food, transportation, job training and more. Services can be shown on a map so that you can search for those nearby, and the website provides the information you need to reach out to service providers.

Find Assistance for Veterans

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Housing Assistance

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) provides assistance for Veterans, service members, and their surviving spouses, including assistance for homeless Veterans, rental housing assistance, and home loans. Use the button above to access the VA website for resources and contact information.
