Yesterday the Biden-Harris Administration released a fact sheet announcing new proposals to “Lower Housing Costs for Working Families,” which included a call for Congress to expand the Housing Credit to build or preserve 1.2 million additional units of affordable rental housing. Other policies outlined in the fact sheet include creating a Neighborhood Homes Tax Credit and a mortgage relief credit, providing down payment assistance for first-generation homebuyers, and implementing a new competitive grant fund to support the construction of more multifamily housing. The release of this fact sheet was followed by President Biden including in his State of the Union address a call for Congress to take action on affordable housing through legislative action.
The AHTCC applauds the Biden-Harris Administration for their continued support for policies addressing the affordable housing crisis.
