BI’DU KHAALE

Cloverdale, California

Bi’du Khaale is an affordable housing development located in Cloverdale, California, designed to support elder members and multigenerational families of the Dry Creek Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians. The Bi’du Khaale development consists of 25 homes, featuring two- and three-bedroom layouts.

Translating to “where the acorns are,” Bi’du Khaale is situated in a nine-acre valley close to the traditional homelands of the Dry Creek Rancheria. The Rancheria acquired the previously undeveloped land and successfully annexed it, creating new opportunities for its members, many of whom live in overcrowded conditions or experience homelessness. The costly annexation process and high construction expenses in Sonoma County made the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit essential for the Rancheria to incorporate with funding resources provided through the Native American Housing Assistance and Self Determination Act (NAHASDA).

The Bi’du Khaale development exemplifies the Rancheria’s unwavering commitment to creating affordable housing opportunities for its members while also developing a centralized community space where Rancheria members can share and celebrate their culture and customs.

Financing for this property was provided by Raymond James Affordable Housing Investments, and it was developed by Dry Creek Rancheria Band of Pomo Indians, utilizing the 9 percent Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (Housing Credit).
