CLARA BROWN COMMONS
DENVER, COLORADO
Clara Brown Commons is a four-story community-focused affordable housing development offering 61 apartment homes for individuals or families earning between 20, 30, 50, 60, or 80 percent of the area median income.
The development received federal and state low-income housing tax credit equity investments that were instrumental not only in funding the deal but also ensuring that the homes would be rented below market rate.
Residents benefit from supportive programs from Mile High Ministries, such as job training, family advocacy, early childhood education, and youth mentoring. Residents have access to common amenities such as a chapel, conference room, piano room, fitness room, children’s playroom, bike storage, mail area, sunroom, balcony and a roof patio. Clara Brown Commons meets 2020 Enterprise Green Communities certifiable standards and features Energy Star appliances, electric vehicle charging stations, photovoltaic solar panels, and storm-resistant construction materials. In homage to the community’s identity, the site features large-scale art from Denver muralists Tony Ortega and Detour, and contributions by artists from local nonprofit Access Gallery.
Financing for this property was facilitated by Hunt Capital Partners and developed by Mile High Ministries. Clara Brown Commons was developed using the 4 percent Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (Housing Credit).
