MARY D. STONE APARTMENTS

Mary D. Stone Apartments in Auburn, MA won a 2023 Charles L. Edson Tax Credit Excellence Award in the Housing for Seniors category.

Mary D. Stone Apartments represents the transformation of a nearly century-old elementary school building to a modern affordable housing community for senior citizens in Auburn. Developed by Pennrose, with financing facilitated by CREA, LLC, the redevelopment of the building preserved and rehabilitated many historic features of the property, including the exterior brick and interior wooden corridor.

Today, it offers 45 affordable homes to senior citizens aged 62 years of age and older. The community incorporates a variety of supportive services on-site, including assisted living services, health assessments, health insurance counseling, and access to transportation to Elder Services of Worcester Area and Auburn Senior Center located in proximity to the property.

Congressional Recognition

Statement from U.S. Senator Ed Markey (D-MA)

“Together, we have a moral obligation to ensure every person – no matter their race, gender, income, age, or zip code – has a safe and affordable place to live,” said Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.). “That’s why I am proud to celebrate these two award-winning projects, the Loop at Mattapan Station and Mary Stone Apartments, which will provide 135 affordable homes in Boston and 45 affordable homes in Auburn. These projects reverse historic housing inequity, reinvesting in communities across our Commonwealth so that generations to come will have a place that they can call home.”
