The Woodlawn School Apartments project is the adaptive reuse of the historic Woodlawn School, located in Woodlawn, Virginia. The development of Woodlawn School Apartments yielded fifty-one (51) high-quality, affordable rental apartments for the citizens of Carroll County. Furthermore, 88.24 percent of homes are restricted at 60 percent of AMI (45 homes) and 11.76 percent of homes are restricted at 40 percent AMI (6 homes). The Woodlawn School apartments were inclusively and sustainably built with the following design features, Universal Design, allowing the property to be modified as needed to accommodate persons with disabilities.
Amenities for this property include, the repurposed school library space outfitted with free high-speed internet and computers, an indoor playground, a picnic area, grills, and an outdoor exercise park. The gym is used both as a polling place and a recreational facility for county residents.
Financing for this property was facilitated by Foss & Company and Redstone Equity Partners and developed by Landmark Asset Services Inc. Woodlawn School Apartments was developed using the 9 percent Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (Housing Credit).
