AHTCC Develops Guide to Engaging Members of Congress in Property Events

  • January 3, 2022
  • 2022 News, Advocacy Resources, Housing Credit

The AHTCC has developed a guide to assist affordable housing advocates in engaging members of Congress and their staff in Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (Housing Credit) property events. Property event engagement is one of the most effective ways to demonstrate the impact of the Housing Credit in communities across the country, and the need to expand and strengthen the program to finance more high-quality, affordable homes for constituents. Groundbreakings, grand openings, ribbon cuttings, property tours, property anniversaries, or any other in-person or virtual events or meetings that highlight Housing Credit properties all provide opportunities for engagement.

This guide includes the step-by-step process to engage Congress in events, including identifying invitees, scheduling your event, and writing and submitting formal invitations, as well as considerations for your event, ideas for alternative congressional engagement, and other advocacy resources.
