FREEDOM’S PATH HINES I & II
Hines, IL
Freedom’s Path Hines is an affordable housing property for veterans, with a priority for homeless, at-risk, and disabled veterans. Freedom’s Path was developed by Communities for Veterans Development and Affordable Housing Solutions on the 147-acre Edward Hines Veterans Administration Medical Campus near Chicago.
Freedom’s Path Hines comprises two phases. The first phase, Freedom’s Path Hines I, has 72 units: 36 efficiency units and 36 one-bedroom units. Freedom’s Path Hines II is a 52 unit property situated on a 0.57 acre subleased site adjacent to Freedom’s Path Hines I. 40 units are subsidized under the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing program and the remaining 12 are committed for Project-Based Section 8 vouchers. Amenities for both properties include a computer center, laundry facilities, fitness center, library, picnic area and sports court, and gathering spaces.
Solutions for Veterans provides on-site supportive services and coordinates additional services through the VA. Services focus on promoting self-sufficiency through access to employment, education, health and counseling. Through the VA, residents also receive a case worker and an individualize program based on each resident’s specific needs. Specialized services may include social work for veterans and their families, mental health services, treatment for PTSD, and physical rehabilitation. Most services are located on the Edward Hines Campus and accessible via a free transportation system.
To make this development possible, RBC Community Investments syndicated over $26.7 million of Housing Credit equity. Photos and property details were provided by RBC Community Investments. For more information, contact David Urban, Regional Director, RBC Community Investments.
