Phillis Wheatley Apartments is the historic adaptive reuse of a former school building and the new construction of a mid-rise building into 82 homes, developed by Phillis Wheatley Redevelopment Developer, LLC. The development is built to meet Enterprise Green Communities certifiable criteria, which is a standard for the design, construction and operation of healthy, energy-efficient and environmentally responsible affordable housing.
The Milwaukee County Veterans’ Services Office (“MCVSO”) will provide outreach and referral services to low-income veterans and their families, while Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan (LSS) will provide supportive services to the broader tenant population.
Most local services are located within 1.5 miles of the property and include a grocery store, a pharmacy, a police station, a fire station, a post office, a bank, schools, and a hospital. The Milwaukee County Transit System provides fixed-route bus transportation throughout Milwaukee County and the nearest bus stop is located approximately 0.2 miles southwest of the Project on W. North Avenue.
The 9% Housing Credit was used to finance the property, with syndication facilitated by Hunt Capital Partners, LLC.
