Decatur Commons is located in Las Vegas. 240 homes will be garden-style apartments for individuals and families with children. Amenities for the family portion include a clubhouse building and outdoor pool, a computer lab, a library, a community room with a kitchen, a playground, a dog run, a basketball court, and a turf field. The remaining 240 homes will house seniors in a double-loaded corridor building with elevators that will also have approximately 10,000 square feet of retail space. Amenities for the seniors include a pool, fitness facility, a computer lab, a library, and a community room with a kitchen.
The property utilized the 9 and 4 percent Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (Housing Credit) for development by Nevada HAND and George Gekakis, Inc., and investment by Wells Fargo.
The senior building will achieve LEED Gold certification. All homes will have EnergyStar rated appliances and windows. All materials will have low or no VOC compounds. The development will also have a solar photovoltaic system to offset energy demand and will utilize LED lighting. The landscaping is designed to reduce water consumption.
Decatur Commons Senior has a wellness room where medical treatment or examinations can be provided. In addition, Decatur Commons Senior will have a fully serviced food pantry that will provide fresh foods and staples for residents.
Decatur Commons is located on Regional Transportation Commission’s bus route 103. Essex West Charleston Park, Griffith Elementary School, and the Southern Nevada Health District Clinic are all located within one-third of a mile from Decatur Commons. The development is surrounded by existing residential and commercial development in a dense neighborhood.
