Gates Junction was developed under the FHAct50 Building Opportunity Fund, created and administered through the Ohio Housing Finance Agency (OHFA) in honor of the 50th anniversary of the Fair Housing Act. The program allowed each of Ohio’s largest cities, including Columbus, to distribute $3 Million in housing tax credits to Franklinton neighborhood, the oldest settlement in Central Ohio and a historically underinvested neighborhood.

Gates Junction, nestled on 1.3 acres, includes a mid-rise, 4-story building, with 49 one-bedroom units, and 11 two-bedroom units for seniors aged 55+. With 44 parking spaces, including two accessible spaces, on-site management, community room, wellness suite, fitness center, outdoor walking path, LEED Certification, and bike storage, this community offers a place where seniors can take advantage of the tools and resources in their new home to age in place for as long as possible which is the ultimate goal and mission of National Church Residences. National Church Residences was awarded a 9% LIHTC new construction through and Ohio Housing Finance Agency special allocation pool of credits in which City selected a neighborhood and projects (FHAct50 Building Opportunity Fund Pool.) Gates Junction offers an array of units affordable to residents at 30% AMI, 60% AMI, 70% AMI, and 80% AMI. As of the beginning of March 2023, the building is almost 75% occupied, with an over 100-person waitlist on the 30% AMI units. Connections have been made with Franklinton Community Council as well as the local non-profit community group. These connections will be utilized to build partnerships with local non-profits and service providers such as Mount Carmel West Hospital and Healthy Living Center, Lower Lights Ministries, and Gladden Community House.
