THE WOODLANDS AT REID TEMPLE

The Woodlands at Reid Temple (Woodlands) is an active senior living community that provides extensive recreational and social opportunities, and much needed high-quality affordable housing in an area previously unserved. Tree preservation was a priority for the development team during site planning the 252 one- and two-bedroom apartment homes in two residential buildings and a large central clubhouse to enhance the 10.7-acre wooded site.

Energy conservation and green building techniques were paramount in the design. The community exceeds Enterprise Green Communities and Energy Star for Homes. The development is fully accessible complying with the American with Disabilities Act. 31 homes are reserved for persons with disabling conditions.

The development was designed for adults aged 62 or older who earn 70, 60 or 50 percent or less of the Area Median Income. In September 2019, more than 200 people attended the groundbreaking for The Woodlands, and by November 2020 there were more than 600 seniors on the waiting list, it is currently 100 percent leased. A virtual ribbon cutting ceremony was held in May 2021 for one of Maryland’s largest new affordable housing development. Prince George’s County Executive Angela Alsobrooks said at the ceremony, “Seniors are the bedrock of our community, so we are Prince George’s Proud to support this project that will provide high quality and affordable housing for Prince George’s County seniors.”

The development was financed using the 4 percent Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (Housing Credit), with investment from PNC Real Estate.
